Who We Are

For almost 50 years, Sheridan has been pushing the boundaries of higher education. From our roots as a one-campus, community college to our current position as the backbone of higher education that connects 1.6 million residents in the three West GTA cities of Oakville, Mississauga and Brampton, Sheridan has continually evolved to help students, businesses and communities succeed. Today, Sheridan is a leading Canadian educational institution with a bold vision and dynamic strategic plan to reinvent undergraduate education in Ontario. Our journey is to become Canada’s premier undergraduate teaching university.

The permanent home of Sheridan’s School of Skilled Trades is currently under construction at the Brampton Campus and will open in 2016. Five programs make up the formal skilled trades programming: Electrical Techniques, Mechanical Techniques—Tool Making, Mechanical Techniques—Plumbing, Mechanical Techniques—Tool and Die Maker, and Welding Techniques. Additional programs are offered through government partnerships including: Industrial Mechanic Millwright, Tool & Die Maker, Tooling/Tool Maker, General Machinist, Electrician and Apprenticeship Training Programs.

The need for skilled trade professionals in Canada is growing and all of Sheridan’s programs are in high demand. Currently, 1,700 students are enrolled in the School of Skilled Trades. These programs offer students superior training and numerous pathways to both apprenticeship and continuing education. Student success is driven by excellent instructors, state-of-the-art equipment, and the strong reputation Sheridan enjoys among employers.

Sheridan is grateful to the Princess Auto Foundation for supporting student success in the School of Skilled Trades. To date, over 75 Princess Auto Foundation Bursaries have been awarded to deserving Sheridan students.
