Who We Are
2015 marks BCIT’s 50th anniversary. We have over 155,000 alumni, 47,000 full and part-time students, 2391 full and part-time faculty, and an annual budget of $320m. The median age of full-time students is 22 years, and the median age of our part-time students is 31 years. 98% of recent degree graduates are employed and there is an annual starting salary of $64,480 for graduates of degree programs.
We are also able to report that 95% of current learners are satisfied with their BCIT education. 80% of BCIT grads with certificates or diplomas are working in their field of study vs. a provincial average of 66%. BCIT also led all colleges in Canada by attracting $15.2m in research funding last year. BCIT grads have gone on to be Presidents/CEO’s of major companies including Ledcor, London Drugs, and Sun-Rype Products.
BCIT’s Trades, Apprenticeship and Technician programs equip students with the current, specialized knowledge required for a career in trades. BCIT offers training in over 35 trades through the School of Construction and the Environment, the School of Transportation, and the School of Energy. Please refer to Appendix A for a complete list of the trades programs at BCIT which are eligible for bursaries.
In 2013-14 BCIT had 4,891 full-time students in Trades & Technical Studies, 5,244 apprentices, and a total of 27,883 part-time certificate/diploma students. We also had 2,365 Diploma of Technology (Trades Training/Technical Studies) graduates, 2,803 Certificate of Technology (Trades Training/Technical Studies) graduates, and 648 students completing Associate Certificates of Technology in Trades and Technical Studies.
